What is Fat Dissolving?

Fat dissolving, also known as injection lipolysis, is a non-surgical procedure that uses injections to break down and remove fat from targeted areas of the body.

How does it work?

A solution of deoxycholic acid is injected into the fat cells, which are then liquefied and destroyed. The lymphatic system then naturally eliminates the fat. 

Where is it used?

Fat dissolving is often used to treat areas with stubborn fat, such as the abdomen, back, flanks, waist, chin, arms, knees, and under the buttocks. 

How is it done?

A fine needle is used to administer the injections, which usually take place in a series of two sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. 

Who is it not suitable for?

Fat dissolving is not suitable for people under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, or with an allergy or intolerance to any of the ingredients. It's also not advised for people over 60, as results may not be effective.

 

Do’s and Don'ts

Alcohol and caffeine - Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment, and try not to drink caffeinated beverages. These can cause inflammation and bruising, which can slow healing. 

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs  -  Avoid taking aspirin, Advil, Motrin, or Aleve for one week before and after your treatment. These drugs can inhibit the body's natural inflammatory response. 

Skin-irritating products  - Avoid using products with active ingredients, such as topical retinoids, topical acids, and topical exfoliants. 

Hair removal methods - Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using depilatory creams in the treatment area. These methods can make your skin more sensitive. 

Intense exercise - Avoid intense exercise for 48 hours before your appointment. 

 

Lemon Bottle Aftercare

You post treatment care is as follows:

  • Do not touch the area for a minimum of 6 hours

  • Wash with mild soap only and do not scrub the area

  • No spray tans or sun beds for 7 days

  • No steam or saunas for 7 days

  • Use arnica cream to reduce any bruising

  • Avoid exercising for 24 hours

Side effects typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. Common side effects to expect after the treatment include:

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Lumps

  • Bruising

If mild/moderate allergies can appear either immediately or after a few days then seek medical advice if an irritation starts. Antihistamines can be bought over the counter and these are often sufficient for mild/moderate skin rashes, mild swelling or redness. 

 

Although rare, there are risks with any procedure and all of the above side effects are considered to be normal. What is not normal, is the sudden onset of pain or pain that causes distress.
